Professionalism is knowing what is expected of you and behaving accordingly. In a professional setting, one needs to know how to act, behave, and understand what is appropriate or not. Being professional is understanding how to compose oneself in certain circumstances. Professionalism is part of one’s job. One must also know the proper speech that is preferred. Body language, speech, and attire all play into professionalism but decision making, attitude, and respect do as well. I believe that showing professionalism is showing respect. This is not limited to only faculty but would include all that one comes in contact with. Parents, guardians, students, and pre-teaching students are all included in this.

A teacher controls the classroom and sets the mood for learning each day. I believe that professionalism goes further than how one treats others. Professionalism is deciding to come to school each day, perform their job and while doing all of this maintaining a positive attitude. Every day is not going to be easy. Each day, setting the pace and mood will have to be a choice. Professionalism is having a can-do and positive attitude.

Confidentiality is also part of professionalism. As a future teacher, I may encounter situations that need to remain between me and the parties involved. Remaining confident in certain areas of this career is to be professional. This is the same with decsion making. My decisions for each student will remain confidential. As a future teacher, I think professionalism is crucial to being a successful and resepected teacher.
